(Not) going to the Wiki

People (possibly just people with older browsers) will find that the wiki OpenID login is busted again thanks to config changes. At this point we are giving up, because trying to keep up with preventing spam and abuse while also continuing to allow legitimate use is a Sisyphean task that is taking entirely too much time and frustration, and the time is better directed elsewhere. As soon as I have the energy to start on it, we will be moving our documentation to Github's hosted wiki system and then we will never have to deal with this headache again.

I will not be moving every page -- a lot of what's on the wiki is extremely out of date to the point of being useless or actively misleading to rely on. To make the judgement calls of what's not out of date easier: if you regularly use specific pages on the wiki, please leave a list of them here to make sure I don't accidentally leave anything out!

My appreciation of pages I can think of.

This started as a list of pages I'd like to stay, but quickly grew into my estimate of relevance and currentness for pages I know of, sorted in approximate descending order of I'd-miss-them-ness.

Pages I seldom need, but when I do I need them badly:

Pages I commonly need whenever I resume being a Dreamwidth volunteer dev:

- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Development (may need some pruning) and some of the pages linked from it (will revisit if time permits with a list of those)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/ESN
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Error_Handling
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Foundation

Pages I'd miss moderately to badly:

- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/IRC (content should be current; current relevance overall is unclear to me, but new people still pop into IRC now and then, and some become regulars or regular semi-lurkers; as such I've pointed people to it in the past six months or so).
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/IRC_help (see above)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/IRC/welcoming (see above)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Dreamwidth-Specific_Jargon
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Dreamwidth_Timeline
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Book_of_Wholesome_Hobbies
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Stretch_break

Pages I've used once or twice but completely forgot about since (ie, I personally won't miss them):

Pages that may need a serious scrubbing if they're kept:

- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/TheSchwartz (not updated for 10 years; do we still use TheSchwartz?)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Invite_code_generation (will invite codes ever come back?)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Who
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Community_List
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Legislation
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Workers
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Project_Teams
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Summer_of_Code_2010
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/FAQ_variables
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Userdoc_team

Pages that I think can likely be removed without further ado:

- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/Stats_Design (that way of doing stats was abandoned IIRC)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/MogileFS_setup (not used anymore)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/NNTP (never got off the ground, officially abandoned)
- http://wiki.dreamwidth.net/wiki/index.php/DWSpamBot_Help (unless that bot returns to IRC, but that feels unlikely at this time, and there's not much on that page anyway)

Very belatedly, did you mean that for dw_wiki?
