Rendezvous Roundup #1

Hello, folks! This is going to be the first rendezvous roundup post for our dw_volunteers reboot; they'll happen every two weeks on Mondays.

What is a rendezvous roundup post? It's a post to ask questions you've been meaning to ask, report on the status of what you're doing, or share your recent DW accomplishments! The community reboot is aimed at being a good resource for DW volunteers of all stripes, from all the different areas of the site. If somebody doesn't know where to get answers on DW volunteering, this is the place to start. Membership is now open--join and subscribe!

As one of the topics of note this time, please feel free to discuss what you hope to see from this community, while we work on writing up the new guidelines.

Besides rendezvous roundup posts, I'm thinking it might also be a good idea to have weekly off-topic socialization posts so people can get to know each other in the comments there. What do you think?

Whee!

I am shamed that my co-lead and I have been taking so long about looking at the antispam team applications, but it's on our to-do lists, at least.

I've also been thinking about working up a few more resources about how to identify spam, based on some of the common types of spam and non-spam that come through.

We also need a resource about what you can do about spam, I think--the CAPTCHA options, restricting who can comment to registered users, etc--if we don't have one already. There was a support request last week it would have been useful for. Looks like it's still open.

Yay! Thanks for doing this.

I can report that I've been having a blast at Support and learning new stuff, although I'm still committed to style dev just not as much as I used to be. Until search is implemented I'm saving all my approved answers and reading all the other requests to build my own reference system. I'm still wary of using my new privs (I think I've read What Goes Where a few times but...) but it's ok.

I don't really know what I hope to see from this community: inconsequential things I guess, volunteers sharing their news, cheering each others up, questions (and answers!), any sort of announcement, tips too maybe.
